I'm surprised you didn't mention that the new "Neo" character kept explicitly mentioning she (they?) doesn't see things as binary anymore, the world is more complex than just red vs. blue pill, etc. I thought this was a nod to growing awareness of those who identify as non-binary, quantum computing, and/or calls for unity across political aisles (in American politics). I appreciated how the franchise blew up (or at least challenged) the binary, red vs. blue pill framework that made it so iconic.
